The royals may have their own unique styles, but sometimes they like to step out of it and go for something different. This includes wearing clothes and accessories designed for the opposite sex.
The likes of Meghan Markle, Princess Anne, and even Princess Kate who, more than the rest, likes to go for feminine looks, have taken an item or two out of men’s fashion.
From men’s sunglasses, to shoes, to baggy shirts and jackets, the royals have showed off a unisex and androgynous style that’s taking the fashion world by storm.
And it’s not just royals of late that have been taking part in the trend, as dressing in men’s clothes has been favoured by royals in the past too.
Princess Diana was famously a fan of wearing men’s items and she wore them to formal engagements and during casual family events looking very chic.
Meghan Markle first stepped out in a Misha Nonoo Husband shirt in her first appearance with Prince Harry in 2017 and while that wasn’t a man’s shirt, soon she would be wearing her actual husband’s shirt.
The Duchess of Sussex was spotted this year in Florida in an oversized blue shirt which is thought to be the Duke’s which he wore to the Invicitus Games in Germany last September.
Another one of Meghan’s male clothing includes the J. Crew khaki green utility jacket which she has worn on several occasions, including when she was pregnant, during trips to India and Morocco.
Similarly, Princess Anne is a fan of men’s accessories and is often seen in the Adidas Adizero Tempo wraparound sunglasses designed for male runners and cyclists.
The Princess Royal is clearly a fan of Adidas as she also was seen in a pair of Adizero SL2 trainers at the 2024 Paris Olympics which are designed for both men and women.
While you won’t see Princess Kate in men’s shirts or jackets, she is partial to more masculine branded sunglasses. She shops at Finlay, popular with Prince William, Harry and cousin-in-law Jack Brookshank.
The Princess of Wales attended a sailing event in July 22 wearing a pair of unisex SunGod Sierras with blue-tinted lenses.
But no one did it like Diana who wore men’s clothing often including tuxedos and waistcoats. One of her most famous looks included a monochromatic Catherine Walker tuxedo in 1993.
The former Princess of Wales also wore a Catherine Walker black suit to a racing event in 1988 with a green waistcoast, as well as sporting a menswear jacket from the Philadelphia Eagles during her school runs.
