Ladies and gentlemen, by the time you read this Mother’s Day will be over, but you know Mom would still probably enjoy spending a little more time with you or friends by going to special fashion show that not only appeases the shopping urge, but will help find cancer’s cure.

You can celebrate spring with a fashion show in Tillsonburg sponsored by Trinkets Gift Shoppe and The Women on Wilson.
The Couture for a Cure Fashion Show is a very special event, with proceeds going to support the Canadian Cancer Society. Plus, you will find light snacks, refreshments and door prizes.
The date is May 23, from 7-9 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. at the Tillsonburg Senior Centre, 45 Hardy Ave. Tickets are $25 each available at Trinkets Gift Shoppe. You can also call the shoppe at 519-688-0777 to reserve/pay for a ticket. You don’t want to come and find they are sold out.
For our Norfolk readers let me tell you about Trinkets Gift Shoppe, a fascinating store at 149 Broadway, Tillsonburg. Gentlemen, this is the only gift store my hubby will check out when he needs to get me a gift, or he will come home and take me to the store to see something fascinating. He tends to speed me through the ladies fashions, and the beautiful and unique accessories that go perfectly with outfits, to the gift section. If we need a birthday gift for someone, there is so much to choose from – lotions, yummy treats (most with chocolate), cute signs, and other assorted trinkets that all make great gifts and even some fun stuff.

Best of all is the friendly and artistic Carrianne Hall, the owner of the shoppe. Carrianne took me, and my total disregard for fashion and desire to even shop for clothes, and chose outfits that suited me, which I tried on and loved. My, my, I did look good for the big event and many times since.
Now, who are The Women on Wilson? They are a wonderful group of women on Wilson Ave. in Hickory Hills, Tillsonburg, who are not only sponsoring, but volunteering and modelling for the fashion show. I do love Tillsonburg and all the great volunteers we have. Thank you, ladies.
It will be an incredible evening of fashion with special guest Carly Jones from Rapz Lifestyle Clothing. Rapz is definitely Canadian, run by a family who arrived on the shores of Nova Scotia in 1742. The family businesses branched to Rapz Lifestyle Clothing, a brand of lady’s wear with every garment made in Canada since they started designing, manufacturing, and distributing ladies wear in Toronto in 1994.

“At Rapz we’re passionate about women’s fashions,” says Rapz Lifestyle Clothing on their website (rapzwear.com). “We design beautiful clothing for all seasons, unique accessories, and unbelievable cruise, resort, and travel wear. Elegant and stylish clothing of luxurious quality. That’s the advantage of Made in Canada.”
The May 23 fashion show will of course be featuring spring fashions and will include those from all companies sold at Trinkets Gift Shoppe.
When you get your tickets at Trinkets, look carefully at the exterior of the building. The building itself is also very special as it was built in the late 1870s, early 1800s — 149 Broadway is one of two buildings on the east side of Broadway with a mansard roof. When restored, the slope of the Trinket’s roofline was kept and the original slate tile designs, dormer, and corbels, as well as the store front facade.
Just walking in is like going back in time with the original, ornate pressed, tin ceiling.
The yellow/buff Tillson brick walls were usually 2-3 bricks thick to stop fire from spreading to other stores. These walls were structural and would not have been seen by the customers. They would have been covered by paster or shelving, although today we appreciate seeing the workmanship of something nearly 145 years old.
Do not miss our ‘Downtown Diva’ (Carrianne) and The WoW team at the May 23 Couture for a Cure fashion show where you will also be helping to find the cure to eradicate cancer.
