It typically takes 45 days for a new PR cards to arrive. However, for the renewal of PR cards, it takes 104 days. You can check the most recent application processing times on the IRCC website.
How do I receive my PR card?
The IRCC will ship you the PR card if you are a new permanent resident, upon arrival to Canada.
To receive your PR card, you must provide your mailing address to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada. It is mandatory to do so within 180 days of that date using IRCC’s online service. If you don’t do this, the IRCC will revoke your PR card, requiring you to reapply and repay.
PR cards for existing permanent residents will also be mailed to them. After setting up a formal appointment, you may also be asked to pick up your PR card from the IRCC office.
What should you do if the name on your PR card is incomplete or incorrect?
You don’t need to be concerned about missing names on your PR card. PR cards are short and cannot store names with more than 20 characters.
However, contact IRCC to get your PR card reissued if your name was misspelled.
What if I have to return home after arriving in Canada?
A PR card also acts as a travel document. It is advised to travel only after receiving your PR card. However, in case of unavoidable situations, you can contact IRCC customer care at 1-888-242-2100.
What to do with your valid PR card when you have applied for a renewed card?
Keep your existing PR card available until you get your renewal card. If you must travel during this time, you may continue to enter Canada using your valid PR card.
You should discard your old PR card as soon as you obtain your reissued one.
